Who is Jesus Christ?

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Two thousand years ago he became man, born of the Virgin Mary, perfect love made visible. As God-made-man, Jesus showed us that we are all deeply loved by God, and are called to a relationship with him.

Through his life on earth, he gave us an example of how to love, how to witness to truth and justice, how to bear unavoidable sufferings, and how to aim for unity with God the Father by the power of God’s Holy Spirit. True and unconditional love changes people whose hearts are open, and the people who came into contact with Jesus could not help but be changed by him.

In response to his radical love and mercy, people showed sorrow for sin and had faith in him. He spoke the truth and so was persecuted, he died on the cross for our sins, and rose from the dead. This tremendous act witnessed to the fact that he was not just a holy man, but was God – the Creator of the whole Universe. His resurrection was a sign to us that everlasting life in Heaven could be our hope too, if we try to stay close to him.

Through relationship with him, we can bring his presence to others and so become life-giving. He founded the Church to continue his work and to give us his life; particularly through the sacraments including the Mass, and to guide us through the Bible, the traditions and teachings of the Church.
